Tips For Buying Black Amber Jewelry
Silver amber earrings and bracelets are often so affordable people believe they must be fake. But quite frankly, amber is so cheap it is not very cost effective to create manmade amber from insects and plastic resin for jewelry. Don’t worry too much when buying amber. Most jewelers and designers and retailers who sell silver amber earrings, bracelets and other jewelry take great pride in selling genuine Baltic or Dominican amber. Even heat treated black amber jewelry is in fact genuine amber, it’s simply been treated much as genuine rubies are also heat treated to enhance their natural red tones. There is one notable exception to this. Glass lampwork beads often mimic amber in color and translucency and even have what appear to be fossils or at least some darker patches within the glass. These are often sold as silver amber earrings, although in fine print will say they are glass, and retail for just $5 and $10. Lampwork beaded earrings are beautiful and really cheap, but if you want amber, just be careful. Even the most affordable pairs of genuine silver amber earrings will usually cost a little more than $5 or $10.
