Thing to Consider when Buying Patio Lights

It can be all too easy to get swept up by the enthusiasm of loved ones while out at the shops, and we all love an impulse buy now and again, especially if it works out. Some things just feel right, and that intuition can lead to some great purchases, and some not so great. Consider patio lighting for example – perhaps you are a new home owner, out shopping for the more essential furniture or some plants for the garden, then you instantly fall in love with a set of patio lights – something you hadn’t yet added to your shopping list or given much thought to – and there is even a good deal on them. Is this a good buy?

Clearly, you can only accurately judge the wisdom of your impulse buy once you have taken your new patio lights home, put them up and sat under them for a while. This is fine if they are indeed just right, but if not you are likely to either keep them for a while until you finally replace them with something more suitable or return them to the shop for a refund. While virtually every big name store is likely to refund any undamaged returns, you still have to take the garden lights down and physically return them to the shop. Who really needs that hassle?

If you do see some great patio lighting in the shops, and realise you would like some for your garden, it is highly recommended that you head home, spend some time in your garden, and consider a few simple factors before you go and spend unnecessary time and money on something that only half does the job.

  • How do you intend to use your patio? For quiet time alone or with your partner, or for family gatherings and parties.
  • Are there areas in your garden that really need lighting? For instance, there may be an area where a n accident might be avoided if it was well lit.
  • What kind of atmosphere are you trying to create? Different lighting will add different character to your garden. You should consider brightness and also how spread out you want your lights.
  • How will they work with the current decor in your patio? Some lights will blend with and compliment your current theme better than others. In particular you should consider the color scheme.
  • Are they easy to put up? Ideally you don’t want to hire an engineer to install your patio lights.

If you spend a little time thinking about these basic factors you will have a much better idea about what will and what will not work in your garden. Every garden is different so it really does pay in the long run to think about your own personal requirements for patio lighting before you jump on the latest trend or hot bargain.
