When people consider creating passive income blogs there are many things they have to think about- how much time they want to devote to this, what they expect to get out of blogging, how frequently would they like to post, and what do they want to write about. The answers to all of these questions determine whether their blog will become a passive income stream or a job.
The passivity of blogging is directly related to the timelessness of the blog’s content. A blog that has posts about a variety of subjects, that are insightful and classic will attract traffic even if the blogger decides to stop posting for a year. On the otherhand, a blogger who posts about trivial or time specefic stuff like the weather or what they bought at the mall today, must update constantly to retain followers.
The best way to tell how passive a blog is, is to stop blogging and see if you have the same traffic. If your blog is passive your traffic should stay the same or even increase over the course of a year. Unfortunatley this method isn’t realistic for most people, but there are many other ways to get an idea of just how passive your blog is. A good indication of this are new followers. Loyal readers and subscribers are great but they represent the active component of your blog- in exchange for consistent content, they read your blog daily. These types of readers are not nearly as important in terms of passive income as new traffic. Loyal readers visit your blog strictly for the content and are unlikely to click on or even notice ads. New visitors however take in the site as a whole, ads and all. It’s for this reason that you need to be able to show that new people routinely discover your site, not just that you have a loyal following.
That being said, regular readers are important in that they can spread the word about your blog to others, so don’t discount their value completely.
