Outdoor Adventures – Preparing for the Worst

When summer rolls around, most people know what they want to do. Spending time outdoors is a staple activity for the summer, and it is enjoyed by almost everyone. Whether you are camping, out fishing, or hiking, adventuring outdoors is a great way to spend time with nature. However, it is advised that you be prepared for whatever happens or could happen outdoors. Maybe you are going on a fly-in fishing trip and the plane goes down in the middle of nowhere? Or what if you get lost while hiking? What if you are in the middle of the forest hunting and your car breaks down? These all seem very unlikely, and that may be the case, but they are all possible. Personally, I would rather be prepared even though things like these probably won’t happen. So, in this article, I will tell you the few things I make sure to bring with me if I know there is the possibility of needing to survive in the wild.

The two main items I like to bring with me are a hunting knife and a telescopic fishing rod. Both are very small so they can easily be carried in a backpack or even a pocket and they both greatly increase your chances of surviving if the worst happens. They both can be used for hunting and the knife can even be transformed into a spear by tying it to the end of a large and sturdy stick.

There are also other small things I like to take with me just in case. One of them is a nice little flint fire starter. I prefer this over matches or a lighter because it lasts a lot longer and it can still be used after it has gotten wet, whereas a lighter could be rendered useless if water gets in it. Another thing I like to take with me is a survival book based on the area you are adventuring in. My buddies always give me a hard time when they find out I am carrying around a survival book, but I don’t mind. If we get lost, suddenly I am the one who knows how to survive, and not them.

These are just a few things that are essential to surviving in the wild, and if you are planning to take a trip far away from civilization, I strongly recommend you consider bringing along some basic survival supplies.
