Simple Black Mold Removal

Black mold is usually a slippery green or black substance that can result in very serious health problems. Just about every house has mold in it, but not every kind is harmful to you. A person should treat every mold as being toxic when trying to remove black mold. Mold loves moisture, so a lot of black mold may be found where there are pipe leaks, or anywhere water is found. Signs that a person may have a mold problem include mildew odors, an increase in respiratory distress, or discoloration of walls in your home. Black mold removal is fairly simple if you know what to do.

There are several kits to help in removing black mold, which a person can buy at a pharmacy, a home store, a hardware store, or even some supermarkets. A person could even purchase them through the internet. These black mold tests may range in price from $30 to over $200 depending on how extensively you want to search for mold. The kits work by using a mold testing film to sample air or hard surfaces in a person’s home for mold. If a person happens to find any mold in their home, they can test it to find out if it is toxic by using a screening method that should come in the black mold kit. These kits should also have a guide to help a person remove any mold even if it is not toxic black mold.

When testing for black mold, a person should always test the air and several surfaces in their home. Many times, a person may have mold on hard surfaces, but the mold is not capable of giving off spores into the air because it is not strong enough, yet. Mold spores are the root of mold that makes it grow. Other people might test a hard surface that may not have mold, yet, but there are spores that circulate in the air. A person should always use both of the testing methods to make sure they get an accurate reading of mold in their home.

If a person thinks they might have a black mold problem in their home, there are many different kits that one can use yourself to check for mold. If the mold problem is bigger than what was expected, there are professional inspectors to help detect and get rid of mold. Eliminating black mold in the home can protect families.

Because of the adverse health reactions that it is capable of causing, it must be removed as quickly as possible. The first thing you will need to do regarding black mold removal is purchase large sheets of heavy duty white plastic to put over all the openings that go from the affected area into the other parts of the house. Seal around the plastic with masking tape. In the room where you will be working, leave a door or window open to the outside. Use a large fan to push the air out of the room.

In a one quart spray bottle, mix two tablespoons of Clorox with a quart of water. Use this mixture to spray the areas that are covered with mold. Leave it on for five minutes and then spray the area a second time before you start cleaning it off.

Use rags that you can throw away. Put soap on them, and start scrubbing the moldy area. You will need to scrub a large area around the place where you can see the mold. Single spores cannot be seen. They may remain dormant for a considerable time, but they can still cause problems in sensitive people.

Once you finish with a rag, throw it into a heavy duty trash bag. When the job is finished, tie the bag, and get it out of the house by the shortest route possible. You do not want to run the risk of spreading the mold spores throughout the house.

For your protection there are some precautions you should take. Use a disposable suit, goggles and plastic gloves to keep the spores off of your skin. Cover your mouth and nose with a medium or high efficiency filter dust mask.

Do not take black mold removal lightly. It is a potentially dangerous activity that can affect the health of every person in your family.
