How Gender and Age Affect Car Insurance Rates

While many factors that determine daily car insurance rates can be changed, altered or fixed such as poor credit scores, driving an unreliable vehicle or having a horrible driving record, both age and gender are two areas that are set in stone. Unfortunately, for the better part of young adulthood, females are going to have a slight advantage over their male counterparts in terms of cheaper car insurance rates simply because they are statistically a lower risk for getting into an automotive accident. As for the age category, young individuals are always going to get highest rates because they have no car insurance coverage background and are also the least experienced with driving on the road. In addition, the older a vehicle owner gets, the cheaper car insurance premiums because they are almost always less likely to be driving the same annual mileage as they were when they were thirty of forty years old.

The reason that young males get the worst possible car insurance costs possible is because they are inexperienced and can be quite reckless, often participating in street racing, consistent speeding and swerving in and out of lanes to get through traffic. These three actions are huge catalysts to many of the accidents that happen on the road, not to mention young males tend to drive drunk more and get into horrible car accidents as a result of their actions.

Once individuals turn around the age of twenty-five, for both males and females, as long as their car insurance records are clean and they have not gotten into any serious accidents or received traffic violations, their car insurance rates will dramatically decrease overtime. At this point, there is no real advantage in being a female or male because at the same age these premiums start to decrease is the same time car insurance providers determined the young male racing and speeding instinct has died down. Overall, while vehicle owners may know age and gender play a role in car insurance premiums, they probably do not know how detailed it can get and how much it can really affect the costs of being covered.
