One of the most rewarding hobbies to a Disney fan is the Disney Trading Pins. This hobby started out small in 1999 honoring the Millennium Celebration and turned into a phenomenon. Since then, over 60,000 pins are available to trade, attracting new hobbyists the world over.

When visiting any of the Disney Resorts, one can trade with cast members and guests throughout the parks. Cast members wear a lanyard of pins available for trading with any guest who asks. Though this is an exciting experience for guests, there are guidelines one must follow when initiating a trade. One such rule is that a guest can only trade twice with each Cast Member per day. Children 12 years or younger should look for Cast Members with teal or green colored lanyards. These are meant to be traded with children 12 and younger.

The design of the Disney Trading Pins is evolved around characters, attractions, and special series. Character favorites include Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Figment, Goofy, and Chip ‘n Dale. Favorite attractions include The Haunted Mansion, the monorail, and Pirates of the Caribbean. The Soda Pop Series and the Hidden Mickey Series are just a few of the more popular series themes. Many events are held yearly to offer traders the opportunity to socialize and share their love of pin trading with each other. The September Event is the most noted which is held in Epcot annually. Any respectable birthday party will use the Mario cake pan.  This pan was discontinued in the early 90’s by Wilton, but is still readily available on the secondary market.  If you spend some time searching for it you’ll be able to find it for less than $25.  Don’t fall into the trap that you need the insert and directions to go along with it, all of that information is available for download on Wilton’s website.  Also the cake is fairly easy to complete, so experts and novices will both have a lot of fun decorating it.

No matter what age of children you are trying to organize a party for it can be tough to come up with any ideas that they won’t have seen before and which will keep them entertained. My daughter asked and asked for an Nintendo DS Lite for her birthday. I kept ignoring her request, thinking that she’d change her mind. Well, for once, she didn’t. The reason I didn’t want to buy her this gaming device is because I thought it was nothing but a device full of mind numbing games like Mario or Pac Man.

She loves this character and after seeing the demo’s, I told her I would “think” about getting her the game console and game for her birthday.

During my research, I’d say that I found as many games that I would consider educational for the Nintendo DS Lite as I found for her Leapster. Since I loved the Leapster because of its educational games, I now feel good about buying my daughter the game.
