Beautiful Timber Sash Windows Do The Business.

If you are considering changing the windows in your home, or perhaps you are just at the planning stage of a new residence, you should give some thought to installing timber sash windows.  These character windows have advantages over other windows, and although at the end of the day you may decide on some alternative product, it may pay you to look at the benefits that sash timber windows can bring to your property.

· One of the main characteristics of timber is that it is naturally attractive and this beauty is very difficult to duplicate, no matter how hard manufacturers of other window types try.  You can get uPVC windows in a woodgrain effect, but this effect only carries the window so far – when you are close to the window frame it is obvious that it is not timber.  This natural sheen or patina can be enhanced by the use of a clear oil or perhaps a varnish, which will darken and deepen over time.

· There is an argument that because of the regular painting maintenance that a timber sash window requires, that it is equally as hard on the environment as the production of a uPVC window.  However, even though the recycling of uPVC windows has improved in recent years, it is much easier to recycle timber window components and on balance it is felt that timber windows are friendlier towards the environment.

· When it comes to properties that are of architectural interest, be they stand alone houses, or homes that are part of a terrace or estate, planning departments are often in favour of the installation of timber windows over any other type. In fact you would need to be sure always to check with your local planner before replacing timber windows with uPVC or any other type of window frame, in case these windows are not allowed.  The point could also be made that older homes will usually look better with timber sash windows rather than those made with more modern materials.
